Contemporary Country Garden, Suffolk

The Brief: These clients near Framlingham in Suffolk wanted to transform the overgrown garden into a plant lovers paradise with a more contemporary vibe that would provide spaces for entertaining and better link the Suffolk barn with the surrounding countryside.

The Solution: Making the most of the south-facing aspect, the design created seating areas surrounded by plants and enhancing the outside-inside connection. Black fences echoing the Suffolk barn created privacy and a garden studio utilising the same black weather boarding and a cedar shingle roof provides balances the space and provides the perfect home office. The main terrace of limestone setts included gravel garden pockets leads onto a large lawn and gravel paths link the various spaces, weaving through large raised beds fashioned from corten steel creating an immersive experience. The contemporary planting scheme includes a diverse range of perennials and grasses and along with wildflower meadow areas in the garden provide colour, interest and plenty of food and habitats for pollinators and wildlife through the seasons.
